Crafty Wood Dolls

I made up my first happy batch of wood dolls!

Last week I told you I was determined to use some of these wood curtain pull accessories that I painted gold. The shapes reminded me of the Japanese kokeshi and Russian stacking dolls I like so much.

I thought it might be fun to decoupage them. I focused on the part of the wood that most resembled a dress zone.

Then I opted for a circle for the face. Very Japanese doll-like. I could see my dolls coming to life now. The curtain manufacturers must be laughing now...these wood pulls are meant to hold curtain sashes. Tassels are what they are meant to hold.

I have not drawn a face in so long! I had to pull out my sketch book to decide what type of face to paint on. This was a happy doodling assignment. I have to say, I was nervous painting them! I decided simple was best.

Naturally, I had to glam them up a little with beads and button hats. Out came the jewelery making supplies. I had such a great time deciding on the hats.....that an hour or two went by quite quickly!

Then I organized the photo shoot!

They look like over the top salt and pepper shakers when I line them up.

I really want them to be plant accessories. I am not sure that I can bear to have them stay outside though. So, my next project might be creating an indoor sanctuary for them instead. Either way, they make me smile when I look at them.
